Walking Mountains Science Center Nature at Night interactive winter program returns to The Westin Riverfront

The Westin Riverfront Resort & Spa is pleased to be continuing its partnership with Vail Valley’s Walking Mountains Science Center by once again offering free interactive Nature at Night programs weekly this ski season.

Nature at Night will be held on 13 Thursday evenings from 4 p.m. – 5 p.m. in The Westin Riverfront Lobby. Topics for the weekly hands-on programs range from astronomy to the different types of birds and animals found here in the Vail Valley to the science of snow.

“We are thrilled to once again be offering this unique opportunity to learn about nature here in the Vail Valley,” said Westin Riverfront General Manager Kristen Pryor. “Partnering with Walking Mountains is an amazing way to showcase our shared passion for sustainability and to create lifelong memories for our guests.”

Free and open to the public, the Nature at Night schedule for this winter includes:

Vail Spa Condominiums completes $10 million renovation

The Vail Spa Condominiums Homeowners Association, which is managed by East West Destination Hospitality, has completed the $10 million renovation project that it launched last spring.

Vail’s KH Webb Architects oversaw the design and RA Nelson handled the execution of the Vail Spa renovation, which was completed in just over seven months. Koll Consulting of Glenwood Springs helped to manage the project as the Owner’s Representative.

Owners at the Vail Spa Condominiums, which originally opened in 1980, recognized the need for major refurbishment and funded the $10 million in upgrades, which included a full exterior remodel with copper, stucco and wood accents and the installation of new exterior pavers and snowmelt system. On the interior, the building has new finishes to its upper and lower lobbies and refurbished elevator cars with upgraded digital equipment. The Lionshead property also completely renovated its locker, spa and fitness areas, with new tile and finishes to the indoor and outdoor pool and hot tub areas, plus upgraded lighting and automated pool covers.

To help make the building more environmentally friendly, new energy efficient and noise reducing windows and doors were installed in all 56 of the Vail Spa residences, and a rooftop solar heating mechanical system was installed for the pools, hot tubs and locker rooms.

Spa Anjali named “Favorite Green Spa” by American Spa Magazine

We are thrilled to share that Spa Anjali at The Westin Riverfront Resort & Spa has been named the “Favorite Green Spa” in the 2016 Professional Choice Awards from American Spa Magazine.

Spa Anjali is dedicated to keeping its guests and staff healthy and balanced. Highlights include a 25-yard saline swimming pool and a living wall of more than 500 succulent plants that adorn the spa entrance, improving air quality and adding to the peaceful, stress-reducing environment.

Spa Anjali uses only organic and natural treatment products and sources locally whenever possible. The spa boutique carefully selects companies that align with its sustainable goals, such as Eminence Skincare, which has planted 3,580 trees on behalf of Spa Anjali, which is equal to 137 football fields full of trees! Spa Anjali also offers the unique “Green Check In” program, where resort guests are given $10 off for coming down to their spa appointment in the robe that is provided in their guest room. 

Spa Anjali has an extensive recycling program is in place, including using rechargeable batteries and recycling linens. Spa Anjali’s green hair and nail salon uses products that do not contain harsh chemicals found in most salons, such as sulfates and formaldehyde. It also uses only natural cleaning methods, such as oxygen infused laundry and Eco wipes, which decrease reduce water usage, chemical waste and build-up.

Beaver Creek, Northstar at Tahoe & Vail Opening this Week!

With another early winter storm dropping several inches of fresh powder across the West, Northstar at Tahoe is set to open for the 2016-2017 ski season this Wednesday and Vail Mountain and Beaver Creek Mountain will open on Friday.  We’re looking forward to another fantastic winter season!

Three Course Turkey Burner at The Athletic Club

In true Thanksgiving style, on Thursday, Nov. 24th the Athletic Club at The Westin is encouraging everyone to enjoy not one, not two…but THREE special Thanksgiving Turkey Burner group exercise classes in a row that are free and open to the public.

East West Employee Team for Beaver Creek Winter Running Series

East West in encouraging all Vail Valley employees to dig out their snowshoes and join the East West Employee Snowshoe Team for this season’s Beaver Creek Winter Running Series. All fitness levels are welcome!!

The series consists of three races:

  • Sunday, Jan. 8th at 11 a.m. – Creekside Park
  • Sunday, Feb. 12th at 11 a.m. – Creekside Park
  • Sunday, March 5th at 11 a.m. – McCoy Park/Beaver Creek Nordic Center

Walking Mountains Sustainable Film Series Kicking Off Nov. 1

East West Destination Hospitality is proud to once again be a “Sustaining Sponsor” of the Walking Mountains Science Center’s 2016-2017 Sustainable Film Series. 

This series is designed to raise awareness and encourage community dialogue about environmental issues afflicting our world through award-winning independent featured films. No reservations are required – the films will be shown on the 1st Tuesday of every month at Loaded Joes in Avon and 3rd Tuesday of every month at Dusty Boot in Eagle starting at 6:30 p.m.

2nd annual Westin Riverfront Scary Scurry 5K Walk/Run this Friday

The Westin Riverfront Resort & Spa at Beaver Creek Mountain is kicking off the Halloween weekend with the 2nd annual Scary Scurry Costume 5K this Friday, Oct. 28th at noon.

Free and open to the public, this 5K walk/run will leave from The Westin Riverfront’s Gondola Plaza. Join The Westin’s Run Concierge Tamara Donelson and Assistant Athletic Club Director Heather Pugh on the course, which will go west on the Eagle River bike path, around Nottingham Lake, then back along the bike path to end at The Westin Riverfront.

Participants are encouraged to dress in their Halloween costume and bring a food donation to help stock the shelves at the Vail Valley Salvation Army Food Pantry.

The Westin Riverfront – which is locally owned by East West Destination Hospitality – is encouraging all of its associates to participate in the 5K as part of its Mountains of Wellness initiative. Mountains of Wellness is a comprehensive support program which includes quarterly Wellness Trainings with a certified health coach, weekly nutritional tips and healthy recipes and quarterly Wellness Challenges.
